Motorola Moto G4 Plus- Introduction

Motorola announced the all new 4th generation Moto G on 17 May, at a launch event in New Delhi with 2 handsets – the new Motorola Moto G4 and the G4 Plus. Both the phones offer a flat design and the end comes with a fingerprint sensor making it the first device from the brand to sport this feature. Here is our first hands-on of the Motorola Moto G4 Plus which will be available from 18 May.

Motorola Moto G4 Plus is a really slim device, with a not so impressive silver plastic frame and white rear panel. The Moto G4 back panel feels good in the hand but doesn’t make for a firm hold. The volume rocker and the power button are located on the right, whereas the micro-USB port in the bottom. The top corner is flat to the 3.5mm audio jack. Moto G4 Plus supports dual-sim functionality and notwithstanding being thinner than previous devices in the G series, packs a sizeable 3,000mAh battery.

Motorola Moto G4 Plus- Display

The new Motorola Moto G4 plus comes with a 5.5-inch full HD display. This is a first for any Moto G device; in fact, the one & only single handsets under the Moto portfolio with a 5.5-inch display was the Moto X Play. Nonetheless, the display looks bright and sharp. The re’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top for added protection as well.

Moto G4 Plus LCD display has all the pros and cons of a screen of this type: slightly glowing colors, higher brightness, and suitable viewing angles. The contrast and sharpness also draw attention, as the display is more clear and sharper.

Motorola Moto G4 Plus- Camera

The biggest highlight of the Moto G4 Plus is the camera, which is a 16-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture and Phase Detection Autofocus. The phone also gets a laser autofocus system to quickly lock onto nearby objects.  You can use tap-to-focus on your subject and also correct the exposure with a slider. Long-tapping on your point will lock the focus, which is helpful. You get more shooting modes too, like panorama, slow-motion video, and a professional mode.

Motorola Moto G4 Plus- Software

The new Motorola Moto G4 Plus come with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There are the usual Motorola apps which make the experience very productive like the twist action to turn on the camera feature and the chop action to open the flashlight. The OS is the biggest point of the Motorola Moto G4 Plus, something that makes it last apart from others in the crowded market.

Motorola has also combined some helpful features without tinkering with the user interface. Some of the Moto gestures – twist the wrist to start camera app etc, are present on the phone. Likewise, the notification looks that the phone offers as soon as you take it out of the pocket is very useful.

The Plus version of Moto G4 isn’t as ‘Plus’ if we take into record its worldwide variants. The re’s a model with 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage and another 64GB with 4GB of RAM. Maybe the strategy was necessary to keep the price of the device within the middle of respective markets.

The Moto G4 Plus processor is the same as the Motorola Moto G4 the Snapdragon 617 octa-core. In the box, the model has a 15W charger which is capable of fulfilling its full 3,000 mAh battery in only 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Motorola Moto G4 Plus- Verdict

Motorola Moto G4 Plus Verdict

Motorola has, once again, successfully placed the Moto G model right on top of the “value for money” category. A midrange with a capable processor, a very promising camera on the G4 Plus variation, fast charging, a grippy material with the ability to withstand light accidents — for the price point of between $180 and $230. The phone packs in a much required SoC upgrade which keeps the latest version of Android running easily, a fingerprint sensor, a good camera for sunlight photography, and all-day battery life. This makes it a very good option in this price range.
