Rokid Max review 2024: lightweight and comfortable

Augmented reality (AR) glasses and eyewear have been talked about by tech companies for almost a decade. There are also strong reports that Apple will release a mixed-reality headset this year. Unfortunately, until now, the goods have either been so expensive that they were beyond a niche market, or they were cheap and easy to use, but they didn’t add anything to real life.

The Rokid Max, the company’s newest pair of glasses, is in the second group. It’s called a pair of AR smart glasses, but there aren’t many augmented reality apps, and the ones that are there need to be fixed. The Rokid Max glasses have a pair of Micro-OLED displays in each eye. When plugged into a device like a smartphone or laptop, the displays can cast images that look like a floating screen in front of the wearer’s eyes. The Max is Rokid’s second-generation product after the Rokid Air, which came out in 2021. It joins a market for consumer-grade AR glasses that is getting more and more crowded, with products from well-known tech companies like Lenovo and TCL as well as hot Chinese startups like nReal, which is currently the market leader in this category. Rokid Max: Software

Rokid made a partner app for the glasses, which is only available for Android right now (but Rokid has said that an iOS version is on the way). The app will start an AR platform that looks like the home screen of an iPhone or iPad in landscape mode. Here, you can open different apps that can be shown in the virtual room. You can “map” these to different parts of your field of vision.

For example, you could put Instagram in the top left corner, a web browser below it, and a Twitter feed on the right. You can move some of these windows farther away or closer to you, and the space seems to go on forever (or at least as far as your eyes can see). The glasses have sensors for 3DoF (three degrees of freedom) head tracking, so you can even “look around” by turning your head if you want to place more windows outside of your direct field of view.

The Rokid Max smart speaker is designed to be easy and quick to use. It has an Octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM, which let it run multiple apps and handle complex jobs quickly and without lagging. The device has 32GB of storage built in, and you can add up to 256GB more with a microSD card. This means that a lot of media, like music, photos, and videos, can be saved on the device and are easy to get to.

It’s great for watching movies, surfing the web, and using apps because the 10-inch HD screen shows clear and sharp pictures. The eight far-field microphones are sensitive and work well, so the device can hear voice orders even when there is a lot of noise around.

With their great picture and sound quality, the Rokid Max might be the best AR glasses you can get right now if you want a quality, ultra-portable external display for your phone and comfortable headphones that won’t bother your ears since they won’t be going in them.

With micro OLED, 120Hz, and almost no latency, you can not only watch movies while on the go, but you can also play games easily. Even though I don’t like the app that goes with it, you don’t have to deal with it. Here’s hope it gets better in the future.
