Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is the thinnest foldable phone on the market in 2022. This is an amazing feat that should put it in the spotlight right away and keep it there for a while. This Mix Fold 2 is only sold in China, so only a small number of people will be able to buy it. It looks like Xiaomi has no plans to sell its high-tech gadgets anywhere outside of China. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, the first Mix Fold, and the great Xiaomi 12S Ultra did not make it to foreign markets.
Now that I’m done with that rant, let’s look at this Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 that just showed up at our office. The new Mix Fold 2 is a huge improvement over the first one. First of all, it is much smaller and lighter. When folded, the Fold 2 is only 11mm thick, while the Fold 1 is 17mm thick and weighs 317g. It has a better hinge, a front made of Gorilla Glass Victus, a metal frame, and frosted glass on the back.

Design and Hardware

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is like the Galaxy Fold line in that it has two screens and folds inward like a book. Most people like this design better than Huawei’s single-screen, outer-folding design, because the soft-bend screen is safe when it’s not in use. This form, on the other hand, is bigger because it has two screens. At least, that’s how it was before the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2.
Xiaomi has made the Mix Fold 2 so thin that it is only 5.4mm thick when it is open and 11.2mm thick when it is folded. This means that when the Mix Fold 4 is open, it is probably the smallest tablet in the world. Only e-ink tablets like the Remarkable 2 can claim to be even thinner. When the Mix Fold 2 is closed, it doesn’t feel much thicker than a big premium phone like the iPhone 13 Pro Max that has a case on it. You can buy this phone from its official website
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2: Display
When the Mix Fold 2 is open, the main screen is an 8-inch, LTPO 2.0 OLED panel with a resolution of 1914 x 2160. It is made of very thin glass, has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and mostly looks great. Even though Xiaomi’s display crease at the point where it folds isn’t as obvious as the deep lines on Samsung’s foldables, it’s still a bit more obvious than on the Oppo Find N or the Vivo X Fold.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2: Cameras

Xiaomi’s relationship with Leica started with the 12S Ultra, and the MIX Fold 2 also benefits from it. The foldable doesn’t have the same 1-inch camera module. Instead, Xiaomi went with the reliable 50MP Sony IMX766 for the main lens, a 13MP wide-angle lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. At the front, there is an autofocus 20MP sensor. The camera system is the same as on other Xiaomi devices, except for the red accents in the user interface.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2: Performance
The MIX Fold 2 is powered by the latest 4nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip from Qualcomm. Since the CPU is now made by TSMC, it is much more efficient. Like the other phones we have used with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the MIX Fold 2 is also a powerhouse. We won’t talk too much about the hardware because we have already said a lot about the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and in daily use, the MIX Fold 2 is about the same as the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Z Fold 4. We didn’t notice any slowdowns or lag, and the foldable didn’t get too hot while we were playing games.
Xiaomi Mix Fold 2: Battery life
The MIX Fold 2 has a bigger battery with 4500 mAh, and although it doesn’t have wireless charging, it does have 67W direct charging. Xiaomi still puts a charger in the box with its devices, which is great. It only takes 30 minutes to get to 75% and another 18 minutes to get to 100%.
And the MIX Fold 2 lasted all day without any problems. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the big battery work well together, and the foldable has Xiaomi’s normal battery-saving features that are built into MIUI 13.
Price and availability
There are three MIX Fold 2 models available in China; the base model has 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM and costs RMB 8,999 ($1,245); the midrange model has 512GB of storage and costs RMB 9,999 ($1,385); and the top-tier model has 1TB of storage and costs RMB 11,999 ($1,660).
Final words
The first question obviously has a positive answer. Xiaomi has done an incredible job of shrinking a huge dual-screen foldable phone down to almost nothing in size and weight. It solves a long-standing issue that has plagued inner-foldable smartphones. As we’ve mentioned before, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 unfolded feels much like any other large flagship smartphone.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 from Samsung hasn’t been able to achieve this goal just yet because of the space between its hinges, which makes the gadget seem more like a hard metal taco than a single slab.
