Google has a little known feature on Google Maps called “Plus Codes” which allows you to share your exact location with someone. And recently we’ve introduced an easier way to share exactly where you’re using these codes on Android. You can also do this on the iPhone, although it’s a little more complex. Plus codes are digital addresses, similar to Google’s own interpretation of latitude and longitude coordinates, but shorter.

They have a different function than “Share location” on Google Maps, which follows you as you move. Plus Codes is more about sharing a static, specific location on a map that anyone can find anytime on any computer. Usually when you are in a city, you can just share your address or a nearby point of interest.

However, if you are at a specific location in a national park, you may want to share your Plus Code so that someone else can find you. Or maybe you’re on a hike and want to share your camp location or the location of a car. You can do this with a plus code before starting the walk.

How to share your exact location on Android’s Google Maps

Open Google Maps on your Android phone.

Tap the blue dot that represents where you are.

Google will show the Plus Code from where you are at the top of the screen.

Send this code to a friend or family member.

You can tap the “Share location” button as well, but keep in mind that this will show your location to your friends as you continue to

How to share your exact location on Google Maps from your iPhone

Open Google Maps on iPhone.
