How to Turn on End-to-End Encryption in Zoom – Guide
Zoom, a video conferencing service, launched with a new security update for users on Monday: end-to-end encryption. But extra privacy against hackers won’t be provided by default, which means users will have to take some steps to enable it.
Previously, Zoom provided extra protection in May, when blowing up use of its service during the coronavirus pandemic has led to an increase in security issues, which include strangers entering uninvited calls, known as Zoombombing.
How to enable end-to-end encryption in Zoom
You need to enable Zoom E2EE in user settings before using it during a meeting:
- Log in to the Zoom web portal.
- Go to Settings > Meeting > Security.
- Enable “Allow use of end-to-end encryption is enabled.”
- Click “Connect” when prompted to verify the change.
- Then select your default security level. “Advanced encryption” is best if you want to keep using all zooms features (You can still use E2EE for Private calls). Selecting “End-to-End Encryption” will use E2EE for all but restricted meetings features it will always be disabled for calls you host.
