How to Delete OneDrive from Windows 10 File Explorer Sidebar – Guide

This tutorial contains guidelines for removing OneDrive from the Explorer Panel (sidebar). In a previous article, I mentioned the best approach to fully uninstall OneDrive from Windows. However, as you might have discovered, after the OneDrive evacuation, the OneDrive easy route in the Explorer sidebar, plus the “OneDrive” organizer under the customer profile index remains.

In this instructive exercise, I’ll tell you the best way to remove (turn off) the OneDrive shortcut from the Explorer sidebar and how to remove any remaining OneDrive extras on Windows 10, 8/8.1, or 7 operating systems.

Remove OneDrive from the sidebar in Windows 10

While OneDrive is a convenient and easy-to-use cloud storage service, you may be looking for a way to remove OneDrive from the File Explorer sidebar in Windows 10 for the following reasons.

You are using other cloud storage services like DropBox, Google Drive and others.

You simply don’t want to see the option to store files on OneDrive on your computer.

You don’t like to see OneDrive taking up space in the Windows 10 File Explorer side menu.

Uninstall OneDrive from Windows 10

The easiest way to remove OneDrive from the File Explorer sidebar in Windows 10 is to simply uninstall the OneDrive app from your computer.

Open Settings on your computer.

On the Settings screen, click the Applications tab.

On the next screen, look for OneDrive > click on Microsoft OneDrive and click on the Uninstall option.

In the confirmation windowup, click Uninstall to confirm.

This will uninstall the OneDrive app on your computer and will be removed from the File Explorer sidebar on your computer.

Remove OneDrive from the sidebar using the registry

This option to remove OneDrive from the File Explorer sidebar works on older computers. On newer computers, you may have difficulty finding the right registry key to modify.

Right click on Start button and click Run.

In the Run Command window, type regedit and click OK.

From the Registry Editor screen, open the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder

In this folder, navigate to the CLSID {018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6} folder and click on it. In the right pane, double-click the System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree entry.

In Edit pop DWORD-up, change the value data from 1 to 0 and click OK to save this change (see image above).

After that, you will no longer find OneDrive in the File Explorer sidebar.

Restart your computer if you still see OneDrive in the File Explorer sidebar. It should have disappeared after logging back into the computer.

By removing OneDrive from the File Explorer sidebar, you’re basically getting it out of the way so you can focus on the cloud storage service you currently use.

Uninstall OneDrive using the command prompt

If you prefer to use the command prompt, you can completely uninstall OneDrive on your Windows 10 computer by following the steps below.

Right click on Start button and click on the Command Prompt (Admin) option.

In the command prompt window, type the following commands and press the Enter key on your computer’s keyboard.
