If you enjoy playing games on your PS4 and want to replicate the experience on your PC, you’re in luck: connecting a PS4 controller to a Windows computer is simple. In reality, there are some alternative approaches. The simplest method is to connect the DualShock controller to PC via USB connection if you play all PC games through Steam. It will be detected immediately and will work in any Steam game that supports controllers.

If you want to use the PS4 controller on your PC without Steam, you can connect it via Bluetooth (if your computer has Bluetooth built in) or a USB cable using a free app that allows the controller to work with Windows.

How to connect a PS4 controller to your PC using Bluetooth

Click Start button in Windows and click on the Settings icon, which looks like a gear. You can find it directly above Power button, used to shut down the PC.

In the Windows Settings search box, type “Bluetooth.” From the drop-down list of suggested search results, click “Bluetooth and other device settings.”

Make sure Bluetooth is turned on. THE button must be placed on the right.

Make sure the PS4 is turned off or in sleep mode so that the controller is not actively connected to it. Press and hold PS and Share buttons on the controller for at least three seconds, until you see the light on top of the controller begin to flash.

Click on “Add Bluetooth or other device”.

On the Add a Device page, click “Bluetooth”.

Click on “Wireless Controller” in the list of available devices. You may need to enter a code – if so, just enter “0000”.

How to connect a PS4 controller to your PC without Bluetooth

Download DS4Windows from GitHub. Look for the latest version on the page – at the time of writing this article, it should be “DS4Windows_1.7.17_x64.zip” – and click on the zipped version of the file.

Install DS4Windows by opening the Zip file and double-clicking DS4Updater.

Connect your PS4 controller to the PC using a USB cable.
