How to Block Android apps

Many third-party apps available on the Google Play Store allow you to lock apps on your Android device. In addition to locking apps, these apps also allow you to lock your system settings and switch between a passcode or password.

It goes without saying that when you lock an app, you must use a pattern or PIN that is different from your device’s unlock pattern. Having the same unlock pattern / PIN as your device will defeat the entire purpose of locking the app.

  • Download AppLock from Google Play on your Android device. The app is free to download and use, but to get rid of ads and unlock advanced features you will need to purchase the full version.
  • The first time you launch the app, you will be asked to create a master PIN. Enter a four-digit PIN, but be sure to keep it different from your unlock phonePIN from. You will have to enter the PIN twice for confirmation purposes.
  • If you have the fingerprint reader set up on your device, AppLock will ask you if you want to lock apps using a fingerprint. Tap Yes or No, depending on your preference.
  • Tap the + symbol and proceed to select the apps you want to block. You can block as many apps as you like. Confirm your selection by tapping the + symbol again.

    • The first time you lock an app, you will have to grant AppLock with certain permissions. A dialog will also come up. up automatically in relation to that.

    Tap OK and proceed to give AppLock access permission to access usage data. Likewise, give the app permission to Appear on Top. Lastly, you will also have to grant the app permission to access your phone’s internal storage.

    After granting the necessary permissions, all selected apps will be blocked. Now, the next time you try to open any locked app, you will be asked to enter unlock PIN or confirm your identity using fingerprint reader. You will have to enter unlock PIN or use fingerprint reader even when accessing AppLock.
