How to share photos from iCloud to non-Apple users – Guide

There is a quick and dirty way to share iCloud photos across platforms. It `s not perfect. There are actually a lot of downsides to doing things this way, which we’ll get to in a moment. However, if you’re dying to share those vacation photos, there’s an easy way to do it. We have to do two things here. First, the default setting in iCloud does not allow sharing with non-iPhone users, so we need to change these settings.

Second, we need to tell our Android friends where the albums we want to share are located. First, let’s change these settings. Go to the Photos app on your iPhone and then on the home page (which should be titled Albums), click the cloud icon at the bottom center that says Shared. Nothing happens? Probably because you don’t have any approved albums yet. Sharing albums is easy.

Access your Settings menu. phone, select iCloud, Apps that use iCloud, Photos and turn on iCloud Photo Sharing. Go back to your Photos app and click on the cloud icon again and you will see a blank page (no problem). On this blank page, click the blue arrow and the word Sharing in the upper left corner. On the next page, click the plus sign in the top left corner, give your album a name, click Next, add the people you want to share with from your contact list, and click Create. Now you can go back to your original album home page, open the shared album and click the plus sign to add the images you want to share.

Turn on iCloud Photo Sharing

Launch the Photos app on your Mac.

Select ‘Photos > Preferences…’ from the toolbar.

In the subsequent window, make sure the ‘iCloud’ tab is selected.

Check the ‘iCloud Photo Sharing’ checkbox.

Close the ‘Preferences’ window.

Create your shared album

Back in the Photos app, Control-click all the images you want to add to your shared album.

Click on the ‘Share’ button (where the cursor is positioned in the screenshot below).

Select ‘iCloud Photo Sharing’.

Click ‘New shared album’ and give your shared album a name.

If you also want to share this album with one or more Apple users, now is your chance to enter their email addresses! Click ‘Create’.

Share your album with non-Apple users

Make sure your shared album is selected in the menu on the left.

Click on the ‘People’ icon (where the cursor is positioned in the screenshot below).

Select ‘Public Site’. This generates a URL that anyone can use to access this album.
