Open the Alexa app and tap the hamburger menu to bring up the side menu, or you can just swipe from left to right.

Then tap on Settings and scroll down until you find the “Voice Purchase” option as shown in the image.

You will see a “Require confirmation code” option, enter your 4-digit PIN and click save changes. Your PIN has been set up. Now, next time whenever someone is trying to buy something with the help of Alexa, they will have to speak the code out loud to complete the purchase.

How to Turn off the “Buy by voice” option entirely

Enabling the PIN is a good step towards securing Alexa’s purchasing power, but it still has one big downside. Since you need to speak the code out loud, there is a high probability that someone can easily hear your code. If you want to fully protect Alexa’s purchasing power, the only way to do that is to turn it off.

To do this, we need to follow the similar steps we did in the previous section, i.e. go to Settings->Voice Purchasing.

Now, instead of defining up the PIN, deactivate the option “Buy by voice”. Now, no one will be able to shop through Alexa, including you.
