Guide: How to Import Chrome Browser Bookmarks to Samsung Browser
Samsung Internet Browser is one of the best alternatives to Chrome on Android, answering many of the persistent usability issues in Google’s flagship browser. It has a finely designed user interface that greatly improves navigation, a handy night mode that works surprisingly well, and a built-in content blocker to remove annoying ads.
However, ditching Google Chrome isn’t that easy, especially with all that bookmarks and other browsing data it collects over time – all in the form of a personalized search and browsing experience. Luckily, the Samsung developers have provided a solution to fix at least some of the migration issues with Samsung Internet Chrome extension.back to menu ↑
Preparing to import
If you’re already using Chrome sync to access your bookmarks on a PC or Mac, you’re prepared and good to go. But if you don’t, you’ll have to sign in to Chrome on a desktop with your Google account and then sync your bookmarks with it. To do that, simply log in to Chrome with your Google account credentials, and your bookmarks will be synced immediately.
If you’re already using Chrome sync to access your bookmarks on a PC or Mac, you’re prepared and you’re good to go
If you sign in to a desktop that you share with others, create a separate Chrome profile to avoid merging your browsing data with someone else’s. Click the profile icon in the top right corner of the Chrome window, then click Manage people to add a new profile.
Note: Not seeing your Chrome bookmarks? Open the Settings shutter, click Sync and turn on the switch next to Bookmarks to sync them.
You also need a Samsung account. Since your bookmarks are imported through Samsung Cloud, you must have one to sign in to both Samsung Internet Chrome Extension and Samsung Internet Browser.
If you’re using a Samsung smartphone, you probably already have a Samsung account. Otherwise, create an account – it’s free.back to menu ↑
Import Chrome bookmarks
Have you synced your bookmarks with Chrome on a desktop? Have you created a Samsung account? If so, you are ready to import your Chrome bookmarks to Samsung Internet Browser. Follow the steps below and it’s done in no time.
Step 1: Use Chrome on your desktop to access the Samsung Internet Extension page in the Chrome Web Store.
Step 2: Add Samsung internet extension to Google Chrome.
Step 3: Click the Samsung Internet Extension icon (which looks somewhat like a flying saucer) next to the address bar, then click Sign In to log in to your Samsung account.
Step 4: After signing in, click on the option labeled Use your Chrome bookmarks in Samsung Internet.
Step 5: Please wait while the extension uploads your bookmarks to Samsung Cloud.
Step 6: Fire up Samsung Internet Browser on your Android smartphone. Tap the vertical Ellipsis icon (three dots) in the top right corner of the browser, then tap Settings.
Step 7: In the Internet Settings panel, tap the option labeled Samsung Cloud.
Note: If you haven’t signed into the browser before, it should be Sync with Samsung Cloud instead. Tap it to sign in with your Samsung account information.
On the next screen, tap Sync now.
Step 8: Go back, tap Bookmarks and you should find your Chrome bookmarks in a separate folder. Tap on it and you can further divide your bookmarks into sections named Bookmarks Bar, Other Bookmarks and Mobile Bookmarks – retains the original structure of Chrome Bookmarks Manager.
Step 9: The Samsung Internet Extension does not sync your Chrome bookmarks with the Samsung Internet browser in real time. You should actively click Import button next to Chrome bookmarks when you upload an updated copy of the bookmarks to your mobile
Done! You have successfully imported your Chrome bookmarks into Samsung Internet Browser.back to menu ↑
Move Chrome Bookmarks
Samsung Internet Browser imports your Chrome bookmarks into a separate folder, but that doesn’t mean you should keep it that way. Tap the vertical Ellipsis icon in the top right corner of the Bookmark Manager, tap Edit to select folders, then tap Move to move them to another folder or location.
The same can be done for individual bookmarks as well. Make sure to spend some time categorizing your bookmarks so you don’t have to endlessly dive into the Chrome bookmarks folder.back to menu ↑
The Samsung internet extension is also doubling up as a direct gateway to your bookmarks stored in the Samsung Internet Browser itself. Click the gear-shaped settings icon after clicking the extension, then click Sync Samsung Bookmarks.
You then need to view your Samsung Internet Browser bookmarks listed under Samsung bookmarks section. Pretty cool, right? Do note that they are not added to Chrome Bookmarks Manager – you can only access them from the extension.
You should also actively click Sync Samsung Bookmarks when you want to update your bookmarks – this will happen automatically, but not as often as you’d like.back to menu ↑
Stay in sync
So this is how you have to import your Chrome bookmarks into Samsung Internet Browser. Very useful, especially since you can repeatedly import newer Chrome bookmarks with little effort. And the ability to seamlessly view your Samsung Internet Browser bookmarks in Chrome itself is a nice touch too.
Finally, do not miss the many other possibilities that the Samsung Internet extension brings. For example, what happens if you use a different browser such as Firefox? The solution – sync your bookmarks to Firefox on the desktop via Firefox Sync, export them to an HTML file, import them to Chrome, then import them to Samsung Internet Browser.
The next up: Samsung has released a whole bunch of new ones features in the form of Samsung Internet Beta, an updated version of Samsung Internet Browser. Check out how it compares to Google Chrome.back to menu ↑
