You can enable Cortana up with your voice and do various things like launch an application, open a file, or search for something in your Windows computer’s browser.

Start Menu Troubleshooter

Windows 10 comes with many built-in troubleshooters as well as more troubleshooters available for download from Microsoft. One is the Start menu troubleshooting, which can fix problems with the Cortana function that won’t close.

  • Download the Microsoft Start Menu Troubleshooter.
  • Run the startmenu.diagcab file you just downloaded. In some cases, it may be necessary to run the program as an administrator to fix the Cortana problem.
  • It may be necessary to unzip the file first using an application such as WinRAR.
  • When the troubleshooting wizard opens, click the Advanced link near the bottom left corner of the window and check the Automatically apply fixes option. Click Next to proceed.
  • Wait for the troubleshooter to check for problems. This can take several minutes, depending on your computer and the severity of the errors.

    • Restart Cortana using Task Manager

    In some cases, simply restarting the Cortana process can help you fix the closing error. First, we’ll try to use the Task Manager and terminate the Cortana process, then restart it by opening it again.

  • Right-click on any empty space on the taskbar and select Task Manager from the context menu.
