Guide: Mute and Unmute in Zoom App on Smartphone – Guide

Zoom is a video conferencing app for Windows, Android and IOS. You can hold group meetings at Zoom with 500 participants! That is, if you purchase the Big Meeting add-on. If you’re using the normal free zoom, it’s a little less than 500 participants, but it’s still amazing! It’s basically a great app for online classes, meetings, business calls, etc.

The Zoom app is not that difficult to use, you don’t need any technology knowledge to use Zoom and have fun! let’s show you how to mute and unmute your sound or anyone in this app.

How to I zoom in on a computer

  • On a desktop zoom callout, move the cursor so that options appear in the Zoom participant squares. This will also reveal the bottom toolbar.
  • Click on the “Mute” microphone option in the lower left corner. Click again to activate sound. This mutes your own microphone – the other parties on the call can no longer hear you.
  • Mouse over a participant so the options appear in their rectangle. Click on the blue “Mute” button button to silence this participant. You can also right-click or click on the three dots to open a windowup menu. Click on “Mute audio”. After a participant is muted, you can follow the same steps to unmute them.
  • To manage all your attendees as the meeting host, you can click on the “Manage Attendees” tab on the bottom toolbar. A number will indicate how many people are currently on the call.
  • This will open a sidebar with each of the participants next to the microphone and video icons. The host will also be identified.
  • As a host, you can hover your mouse over a microphone to mute that individual participant. A blue “Mute” or “With sound” button it will show up.
  • You can also click on the “Mute All” or “Re-Enable All” options at the bottom. This will open a pop-up. You can check the box that will allow participants to unmute the sound. In this case, callers will receive a message that says “Host wants to mute/unmute your microphone” when you make changes.
  • Click “Continue” to complete the change.

    • How to I zoom in on one mobile device

  • In a current call on mobile app, tap to reveal the bottom menu. You will see the mute microphone icon in the lower left corner. Tap here to silence just you.
  • You can also tap the volume button in the upper left corner so that an “X” appears over the speaker icon. However, this will only mute the sound in this device app – it is important to note that this is not the same as mute yourself or other participants. Tap this option again to play the sound again. Tap the “On” microphone icon in the lower left corner to activate your sound.
  • To manage all video participants, tap the “Participants” tab at the bottom.
  • This will open a pop-up. Tap an individual participant to mute their audio. The microphone icons next to the individual names will reflect the changes. Tap their name again and tap “Turn on audio” to reverse the change.
  • To mute all participants, tap “Mute All” in the lower right corner, then tap the blue “Mute All” button button to confirm the change. You can check the option to allow participants to resume the sound if you wish.
  • Tap the “Turn on all sound” option to undo the action.
  • Tap “Close” to close the Participants window when finished.
