Syncing your iPhone with your computer is similar to syncing an iPod with your computer. If you are an iPod user, the process is very easy. But for those who’ve never used an iPod, it’s not too difficult either. Syncing is a great way to keep your iPhone safe. While Apple encourages you to use iCloud, it’s not the only way to sync music, playlists, albums, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, books, and podcasts. Learn how to sync your iPhone to a Mac running macOS Catalina or later, and any computer running iTunes.
How to Sync an iPhone with a computer (macOS Catalina and later)
The first step in syncing iPhone with your computer is connecting the cable that came with iPhone to a USB port on your computer; plug the other end into the Lightning port on the bottom of the iPhone.

If you are running a PC or macOS Mojave or earlier, the sync process is done through iTunes.

Launch iTunes and select the iPhone icon in the upper left corner of the window to open the Summary screen. This screen provides a basic overview and optional information about your iPhone. Information is presented in three sections: iPhone, Backups and Options.
iPhone section
The first section of the Summary screen lists your iPhone’s total storage capacity, phone number, serial number and iOS version o phone is running. The first summary section contains two buttons:
Backups section
This section controls your backup preferences.
No Automatically Back Up section, choose where your iPhone will return to up its content: iCloud or your computer. You can come back up for both, but not at the same time.

The options section contains a list of configuration settings. The first three are more important to most users than others on the list.

Sync Music to iPhone Using iTunes
Select the Music tab in the left pane of iTunes. Click Sync Music at the top of the iTunes screen to sync the music to your iPhone (If you use the iCloud Music Library with Apple Music, this one feature will not be available).

Sync movies to iPhone using iTunes
Click the box next to Sync Movies to enable movie syncing with your iPhone. When you activate this feature, select individual movies from the box that appears below. To sync a particular movie, click its checkbox.
Sync TV to iPhone using iTunes
Click the box next to Sync TV Shows to enable syncing TV shows with your iPhone. When you click on it, all other options are available.
Sync Podcasts to iPhone Using iTunes
Podcasts have the same sync options as movies and TV shows. Click the box next to Sync Podcasts to access the options. You can choose to sync none or all of your podcasts as well as TV shows as well as those that meet specific criteria. If you want to sync some podcasts but not others, select a podcast and then select the episodes you want to sync to your iPhone by clicking the box next to each episode.
Sync books to iPhone using iTunes
Check the box next to Sync Books to enable syncing books from hard drive to iPhone. When you check this, two options are activated.
Use the drop-down menus under the Books heading to sort files by type (books and PDF files, books only, PDF files only) and by title, author, and date. If you choose Selected Books, check the box next to each book you want to sync.
Sync audiobooks to iPhone using iTunes
After selecting Audiobooks from the left-pane menu, click the box next to Sync Audiobooks. Select all audiobooks or just the ones you specify, just like normal books. If you’re not syncing all your audiobooks, check the box next to each book you want to sync to your iPhone. If the audiobook comes in sections, select which one you want to transfer.
You can also choose to manage your audiobooks in playlists and sync those playlists in the Include audiobooks from playlists section.
Sync photos to iPhone using iTunes
iPhone can sync your photos with your Photos app’s library (on Mac; on Windows, you can use Windows Photo Gallery). Check the box next to Sync Photos to enable this option. Choose which photo library to sync to iPhone under Copy Photos from the drop-down menu. Once you’ve done that, your sync options include:

when you define up your iPhone, if you’ve chosen to sync your contacts and calendars with iCloud (recommended), then no options will be available on this screen. Instead, a message informs you that this data is being synced to iCloud. You can make changes to your iPhone settings.
If you choose to sync this information from your computer, you’ll need to activate the sections by checking the box next to each title and then indicating your preferences in the options that appear.
Sync files to iPhone using iTunes
In the Apps column, select the app whose files you want to sync. In the Documents column you will see a list of all available files. To sync a file, click it once and click Save to. Select a location to save the file on your computer.
You can also add files from your computer to the application by selecting the application and clicking the Add button button in the Documents column. Browse your hard drive to find the file you want to sync and choose it.
