In this article, we’ll show you how to add subtitles to movies or TV series on your computer. It’s quick, easy and completely free to do.

How to add subtitles to a movie on TV

Enable closed captioning on TV set

  • Check the TV remote for CC or subtitles button. If it’s been there all along and you had no idea, you’re forgiven – it happens to the best of us. If the remote has no subtitles button, access the TV settings menu.
  • The next part gets complicated, with so many makes and models of TVs, but the latest TV models have closed captioning feature near the top of the settings menu – you shouldn’t find it deeper than a click or two into your settings.
  • Turn on closed captions on your streaming device

  • To turn on subtitles if you are watching Video Prime on your laptop, mobile or desktop, find the playback controls and press the speech bubble icon for Subtitles and Audio.
  • From there, you’ll turn on subtitles and you’ll be able to select the font size as well as its format, which is useful if the text isn’t visible on the screen.
  • Sometimes white text on a light background is lost; Amazon lets you choose white text on a black background so your text is always visible.

    • Enable subtitles using cable TV provider

  • Lastly, if you’re a cable or satellite TV subscriber and you have a remote control from Cox, DirecTV, Dish or another provider, which usually includes a remote that works with your cable box, you can turn on subtitles here .
  • Every cable and satellite provider is different, but you should be able to navigate to closed captioning or captioning options with just a click or two.
  • Search the Menu or Guide button on the remote, then look for an option called Closed Caption, Settings, Subtitle, Language, or Accessibility.
