We copy and paste countless snippets of text and files as we juggle the work between our phone and computer. But what if you want to copy something from one device and access it from another? Fortunately, the solution is not to email it to yourself.

With third-party apps or built-in utilities, you can easily keep your PC and phone clipboards in sync. This means you can copy text from your iPhone and paste it into a text box on your Mac or Windows PC in a matter of seconds. iPhone, iPad and Mac

The universal clipboard for Mac and iPhone is just a checkbox away. Apple offers a lot of continuity features forever keep your phone and the computer in sync, one of which allows you to copy and paste seamlessly between them. Since this is built into your Apple devices, it works almost as if your devices are sharing a common clipboard directory.

To enable universal clipboard on iOS and macOS, first make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple account on both devices. For this to work, your iPhone and Mac must be in close proximity with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on.

Then, on your Mac, go to System Preferences > General and enable the option “Allow transfer between this Mac and your iCloud devices”. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > Airplay and Handoff and turn on “Handoff”.

Now all you have to do is copy any text, images or other content as you normally would on one device and within seconds the data will automatically be added to the clipboard on the other. The copied item will remain on the clipboard of all your Apple devices (with Handoff enabled) for a minute or two, or until you replace it with another one.

The universal clipboard built into your Mac and iPhone is somewhat limited. You can’t search for your last copied clips or sync more than one item at a time. So if you plan to actively copy and paste between your computer and phone, consider trying a third-party application simply called “Paste”. It allows you to save shared clipboard history and costs $2 per month.

iPhone, Android and Mac

Android phone and Mac owners don’t need to feel left out either. While you can’t replicate the same cohesive Apple native universal clipboard experience, third-party apps let you share clipboard entries between Android and macOS. We recommend an app called ClipPaste.

As external applications cannot constantly track your clipboard activities, ClipPaste requires a little extra effort from you to function and does not directly integrate with standard copy-paste buttons like Apple Handoff.

In the case of ClipPaste, after copying an item, you will always have to open the app on your current device first to sync it. After the app saves the copied content, it sends an alert to the second connected device, and from the notification, you can copy and paste it there.

Setting up ClipPaste is simple: install the app on your Mac, Android or iPhone and create a new account. Once signed in, you are ready to share your clipboard data across multiple devices.

Copy any text or image and launch the ClipPaste application. Tap or click the notification on your secondary device, select the copied item to add it to the clipboard and paste where you want with your default options.

Android and Windows

Similar to Apple Handoff, you can sync your Android and Windows 10 or 11 PC clipboards directly in the latter’s settings.

To get started, download the (owned by Microsoft) Swiftkey keyboard app On your phone. Open it and grant the necessary permissions. Once inside, go to Rich Input > Clipboard. Activate the toggle button “Sync clipboard history”. You will be asked to sign in with a Microsoft profile. Make sure you authenticate with the same account you defined up in your computer.

Android, iOS and Google Chrome

Another way to keep your phone and the computer’s clipboard in sync is through OnePlus Clipt. It works similarly to the other cross-platform clipboard managers we’ve discussed so far, but instead of a desktop app, it’s only accessible as a Chrome extension on PC and Mac.

After downloading Clipt on your phone and the Chromium browser of your choice, copy any text or image and open the companion application. Clipt will record the last item you took and attach it to the shared clipboard. On your other device, visit Clipt and copy it again to paste it.
