And when your Slack workspace has dozens of items in these categories, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by them all. The two main types of links in the Slack sidebar are channels and direct messages. Direct messages appear in channels and are listed in a large alphabetical list by default. You can bookmark them to easily keep track of your favorite channels, DMs and apps. At the top of each section, you can see a star outline. Click on it and the channel will jump to the top of the sidebar in a new section called Tagged. To deselect a channel, simply click on the star icon that appears in the same location.
You can change some of the sidebar display options by clicking your workspace name in the top left corner of Slack and choosing Settings. Select the Sidebar tab and you can choose which items appear at the top of the bar. Uncheck anything you don’t want to see all the time. these items are displayed under More. If you enable List private channels separately, private channels will appear after all public channels instead of being mixed with them. This is useful when you like a lot of the two and want a clear separation between them. Remember that public channels are shown with a hash symbol (#), while private channels are blocked.
