How to Bulk Delete Emails in Gmail

To get started, log into your Gmail inbox as you always would.

And while in your inbox, type “is:unread” in the search bar and do a search.

This will allow you to filter your email and only show unread messages.

Then check a small box in the search bar to select all displayed messages.

Now you notice that in my case I have more than 62,000 emails, however only 100 conversations are selected.

This is because by default Gmail displays 100 messages per page. So in our next step, we’ll show you how you select all unread conversations.

So, to select all messages (64,586 in our case) that match the search criteria of “unread”, click on the link “Select all conversations that match this search”.

This selects all unread messages in your inbox.

Delete all messages

You are now ready to delete all unread messages from Gmail inbox.

Go ahead and click on the trash can icon. Gmail will ask you to confirm your action, just click “OK” and that’s it.

After confirming the deletion, it may take some time for Gmail to discard all emails. It depends on the number of messages, in my case it took about 2-3 minutes.

So, after deleting emails from your inbox, Gmail stores them in the trash, from where they are automatically deleted after 30 days.

You can go ahead and empty the trash yourself. To do this, just go to the trash and click on the “Empty trash now” link and confirm the deletion.
