How to Enable Screensaver on Chromebook – Guide
Last week, Chrome OS 88 was released to users all over the world. The update includes some very useful front-end features features for users, but without a doubt the most talked about is the new screensaver of Chrome OS. The screensaver feature, formerly called Ambient Mode, has been in the works for over a year and a half and is now available to you on the stable channel of Chrome OS. Before we dive into the new Chrome OS screensaver, let’s talk a little about what it isn’t. Several publications referred to the new feature as a way to turn your Chromebook into a smart display.
While the screensaver provides some useful information, it doesn’t offer the functionality of devices like the Nest Hub or Lenovo Smart Display. In its current state, the screensaver does some tricks. Firstly, it offers the ability to customize the images that appear on the screen when the screen has been idle for some time. Just like Chromecast, users can choose from images from the art and photo albums selected by Google or you can enable Google Photos and choose from your personal photo albums.
What is Ambient Mode (Screen Saver)
On a Chromecast-connected TV, Ambient Mode displays a custom collection of photos. You can choose from different sources, including your own Google Photos albums. Google Assistant also has an Ambient Mode that shows useful information on the lock screen along with photos. We are more likely to have this kind of Ambient Mode on Chromebooks.
