You will need to boot using the drive instead of the hard drive. Depending on the age of the machine, you may need to access the BIOS settings for this. You need to hold the Option key on old MacBooks after pressing the power button button bring up the boot manager. Select Chrome OS Flex from the boot menu to proceed with the installation.
