How to make custom emoji on Android Devices – Guide

Set Gboard as your default keyboard

The method differs between Android devices, but we’ve listed the two most common.

Android 11

Swipe up and down to extend the curtain and tap the gear icon to open the settings menu.

Tap Manage On-Screen Keyboards.

How to use Emoji Kitchen

With Gboard set to default, you can now use Google’s Emoji Kitchen. As stated earlier, it’s still in beta, so you need to subscribe up first.

Go to Google’s Gboard beta page and click the blue button Become a tester button.

Download Gboard from Google Play if it’s not already installed.

Wait. Google introduces an update that activates Emoji Kitchen, but the wait can take some time. Be patient. you will serve up Cool custom emoji coming soon.

Once updated, open a compatible app and tap the text input field to activate the Gboard. Absolutely don’t touch the smiley face shown inside the text field – this accesses the Emoji Kitchen.

Tap the smiley face at the bottom parked next to the space bar.

You should now see a space between the text input field and the emoji library. A message says “tap a smiley to get stickers”.

Tap on any Emoji and you’ll see a cascade of custom stickers appear in that blank space. Swipe left or right to find your favourite.

Tap the selected sticker and it will be placed in the text input field. Add a message or send it as is.

Mini Emoji

Google introduced this feature at the final of 2018. He uses the camera to capture your face and create over 100 custom emojis. To “emojify” your face, do the following:

Tap the Stickers icon on the Gboard toolbar. If you don’t see it, tap the three dot icon to access the remaining hidden tools and select it there.

Tap Add on the Minis tile.

Leave the front facing camera capture your face and the app generates a custom emoji.

Tap Customize button to make changes.

Tap Save when done.

Bitmoji

Another tool is Bitmoji, a third-party application that integrates with Gboard. Unlike Emoji Mini, you create an avatar from scratch instead of using the phonede camera.

To use Bitmoji on Gboard, do the following:

Tap the Stickers icon on the Gboard toolbar. If you don’t see it, tap the three dot icon to access the remaining hidden tools and select it there.

Tap the Bitmoji tab at the bottom. It sits between the Smiley and Sticker tabs.

Select a Bitmoji to insert into your text.
