Manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung are changing phones forward, and the folding phone class is poised for another resurgence with gross sales projected to reach $29 billion by 2025. If the format has piqued your interest, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is certainly one of the best devices available.

While the first-generation Galaxy Z Flip, both the LTE and 5G variants, looked primitive due to its small, monochrome outer screen and flimsy design, the Z Flip 3 brought a marked improvement with an extra-flexible inner folding display, a very Larger and color outdoor display, and higher efficiency. As Galaxy Z Flip 3 doesn’t natively support swipe answer and end call gesture up and down, we need to program this. We will use an app that can automate automatic actions and events on your Galaxy Z Flip 3. There are several automation apps on the Google Play Store, but we will use MacroDroid because it eliminates the need to root your Android phone.

  • Download MacroDroid from the Google Play Store.
  • Now open the app on your Galaxy Z Flip 3 and patiently read the descriptions of triggers, actions and restrictions.

Add the name of the first macro in the field at the top of the page. I’ll call it the “Flip Call Pick”, but you can feel free to name it whatever you want.
  • Now, tap on the plus icon in the Triggers section labeled in red.
  • Go to Sensors. Here, you will find an option for Light-Sensor. Tap on it. We are choosing the ambient light sensor as a trigger. When the phone is folded, the screen will still turn off even when a call comes in, and the light sensor will turn off. Some imperfect ways to trigger the action would be to associate it with the phone unlocking, the screen turning on or a person touching or pressing the power button button. But in all cases the call would be chosen up automatically – even if only the external screen lights up up.
  • we want the phone be chosen up automatically as soon as the least amount of light hits the sensor. So let’s set the Augments value to = 0.01 lux. Then tap OK.
  • Now, we’re back to the macro’s main page, where we need to enter an action. In our case, the action is to choose up a call. Tap the plus icon in the Actions section and find Phone.
  • Tap Answer call. You will be asked to allow MacroDroid to manage your phone calls. Tap allow.
  • You can choose to add a delay so you have enough time between opening the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and holding it close to your ear. We chose a delay of 2 seconds.
  • We’re back to the main screen, where we need to add any restrictions or conditions necessary for the trigger to lead to action. Tap the plus icon in the green section.
  • Go to Phone and then tap Call Status. Select Not in call and tap OK. This will prevent the call from being answered up in a specific scenario: When you are already talking to someone using a Bluetooth headset and open the phone when you see that another call is on hold.
  • You can also add restrictions if you want the action to run on a certain minimum percentage of battery or during a certain time of day so that the action only works during those hours. I set mine between 7am and 10pm to avoid having to answer unprepared, half-asleep calls.

    In this step, we need to create a new macro to end the calls in a similar way to the previous one, but with different settings.

  • Start by tapping Add Macro again.
  • Name the macro “Flip Call End”.
  • The Galaxy Z Flip 3 must be triggered to end the call when closed. Since non-system apps like MacroDroid are not allowed to know when the phone is open or closed, we will associate a trigger with the screen locking or turning off.
  • You know what to do. Tap the plus icon for triggers and choose Device Events and tap On/Off.
  • Choose screen off and tap OK.
  • Then add the action to end the call. Tap the plus icon and scroll down to Phone. Select call rejection as the action.
  • The next step is to add a constraint. We want to make sure the call stays connected if you’re using a headset. Therefore, we will choose the Headphone Connection option under Media.
  • Select Headphone not connected and tap OK. This will ensure that the macro only works when a headphone is not connected.
  • We also want to ensure that the call is not connected when the screen is off due to the proximity sensor when the phone is placed close to the ear. Therefore, we will set the trigger to take an action only when the proximity sensor is far away.
  • Make sure the relationship between constraints is set to AND. This will ensure that both restrictions apply instead of just one.
  • Are you ready up. Save the macro by pressing the button button in the lower right corner.
  • Make a call to test whether the macros are working or not. Resolve the issue by following the above steps again if necessary after deleting the existing macros.
