How to Run Same App in Multiple Windows on Android – Guide
Already with Android 7.0 Nougat, Google introduced the option to use multiple apps together in split-screen mode. With the introduction of Android Oreo, Google also announced picture-in-picture mode. While both work fine, it’s still sad that we can’t run multiple instances of the same application together. Imagine being able to chat with 2 different contacts on WhatsApp without having to switch between chat windows. Or browse 2 websites at the same time using the same browser. Although we have already written an article on how this is possible in Nougat, unfortunately this method failed in Android Oreo until recently. Some manufacturers, like Samsung and LG, have had split-screen multitasking on their custom versions of Android for years.
But starting with Android Nougat, Google added this functionality to AOSP, which means that everyone phones and tablets running Android 7.0 or later will now have a new multi-window mode. However, there’s one disappointing problem: Nougat’s split-screen mode doesn’t let you run the same app side-by-side. This feature it would be useful for things like copying text between two Google Docs files or opening multiple text message threads at once. You can clone apps to use them side by side, but this is a relatively complicated option for multi-window mode only. Luckily for us, the IJP developer fixed this with a simple non-root app that lets you run two instances of the same app on Android Nougat on one screen.
