The Google Search appearance settings were announced in a post on the Google support page in September 2021. The new appearance settings offer three options: Device Default, Dark or Light. The post also mentioned that the new dark mode settings were rolled out to users on September 9 and will gradually be available to all users in the coming weeks.

The announcement mentions that the new settings will apply to the Google homepage, search results page, search settings and other linked web pages.
