While there is no direct way to upgrade a decade-old operating system, it is possible to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7 and then to Windows 10. But this is not an ideal approach as you will be wasting time and additional licenses.

The best way to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 10 is to start from scratch with a clean install, which you can do with the following steps:

1. Download the Windows 10 ISO from the Microsoft support website. Note that if you are using an older version of Internet Explorer, you will likely need to use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to load the download page.
2. Under “Select edition”, choose Windows 10 and click Confirm.
3. Select your product’s language from the drop-down menu and click Confirm.
4. Click 64-Bit Download or 32-Bit Download button depending on your hardware.

19. Select the edition of Windows 10 you want to install (if applicable). This selection must match the edition for which you purchased the product key.
20. Click Next.
21. Accept the license agreement.
22. Click Next.
23. Click the Custom: Install Windows only (Advanced) option to start a clean install of Windows 10.
24. Select any partition on the hard drive (usually “Drive 0”) and make sure to click the Delete button button to remove partitions.
25. Select the hard drive (drive 0 unallocated space).
26. Click Next to start the installation process.
