How to use the Live Text feature on iPhone and iPad – Guide
The latest version of the iPhone OS, iOS 15, has many features which uses artificial intelligence to inspect the content of a photo.
While object recognition has been around for a long time, Apple says its implementation is different because it happens on the device rather than a cloud server. Furthermore, it is integrated into the operating system.
One of the most suitable applications of this new technology is the ability to copy and paste text from a photo, so, for example, users can take a photo of a page in a book and then take that text and paste it into a document or a note.

1. Make sure “Live Text” is turned on
O feature is enabled by default on iOS 15, but if not, go to Settings> Camera > Live text.
2. Open the camera application
Live Text makes use of camera app, so you’ll want to start by opening this up.
3. Point the camera in the text
Choose the text you want to highlight and point it to your iPhone camera directly into it.
4. Tap the “Live Text” icon
You’ll know Live Text has been turned on as soon as you see a yellow outline around the text and the Live Text icon appears in the lower right corner. Tap the icon to grab the text and select what you want to specifically highlight.
5. Choose your action
From there, you can choose whether you want to “Copy”, “Select All” or “Look Up. ” If you want to highlight all the text, choose “Select All” and copy and paste.
Using “Live Text” with iMessage
You can also use Live Text through iMessage. First, tap the text box, then tap “Text from Camera, ”And the text will be filled in automatically. Once you’ve captured the text, tap “insert” and the camera the application will disappear from the iMessage window.
Also works with handwritten notes
Instead of taking a photo of your handwritten notes, you can use Live Text to scan them. This way, you can copy and paste a recipe or notes from the lesson into the Notes app.
As you can see, it still doesn’t work perfectly – but that’s to be expected with betas. Let’s hope it gets better when the final iOS 15 version is released.
