How to Utilize Files App on iPhone or iPad – Guide

The file app introduced in iOS 11 is the central repository for all file services with apps on your iPhone and iPad, such as iCloud, Google Drive, Dropbox and many more. You can open documents, photos, videos and audio from any compatible application from a single point on the device.

Add third-party apps in the Files app on iPhone

To enable third-party apps in the Files app, you must first download these apps from the App Store. After that,

  • Open the Files application.
  • Tap Navigate → Tap the three dot icon in the upper right corner.
  • Tap Edit.
  • Now, enable the option of a third-party app like Google Drive, Box, One Drive, Dropbox, Adobe Creative Cloud, etc. → Tap Done.

    • Check files stored locally on iPhone or iPad

  • Open the Files app → Tap Browse → Tap On My iPhone.
  • Here you will see all files stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. If you don’t see the option for On My iPhone, follow the instructions above tip and enable it.

    • Connect external devices in the Files app

    You can connect external devices to your iPad and view it in the Files app. To do this, just plug in a compatible USB flash drive, SD card or hard drive, and you’ll see it under Places in the Files app.

    Delete files in file application
