We have How to Mark All iMessages as Read on our iPhones or iPads that we know aren’t important or that we’ve already read on the Messages app of another device. Or maybe the messages are from someone you’d rather not talk to. Whatever the reason, there’s a quick trick you can use in iOS to mark all messages as read right away.
This is much faster than opening each thread individually, tapping back to the main messages window, and then doing the same thing for each unread conversation to mark it as read. Below we will mentioned some steps to Mark All iMessages as Read on iPhone and iPad.
How to Mark All iMessages as Read on iPhone and iPad
Mark All Messages as Read in Messages App
- Open the Messages app on your iPhone.
- Click the three dots at the top right corner.
- Tap Select Messages.
- Now, click on Read All at the bottom.
Disable App Icon Badges for Messages
The other way is to turn off notification badges for the Messages app on your iPhone. Now, this won’t mark the messages as read. Instead, it’ll hide the annoying red bubble count from the app icon on the home screen. This way, you can get rid of those badges without disturbing the unread messages.
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and click on Notifications.
- Click on Messages.
- On the next screen, disable the toggle for Badges.
What is an iMessage?
Apple’s iMessage is an instant messaging service that uses your data to send messages over the Internet. They only work if you can connect to the Internet. You need a data plan or Wi-Fi to be able to send iMessages. If you use Wi-Fi, it doesn’t cost anything, but if you use your phone’s data, it will come out of your data plan.
When you send pictures or videos through iMessage, you can quickly use up a lot of data. On your iPhone, iMessage is in the app that you use to send and receive messages. This app can send messages through both iMessage and SMS. The colour of an iMessage is blue, and a text message is green.
iMessages only work between iPhones and iPads and other Apple products. If you use an iPhone to send a message to a friend with an Android phone, the message will be sent as an SMS and will be green. (This is true even if only one of the people in a group message is also using Android.) If there is no data network available, messages to other iPhones will also be sent as SMS text messages, and unless you have a message plan, you will be charged by your carrier.

And, when you sign in with the same Apple ID on a new device that also has Messages in iCloud turned on, all your conversations show up there automatically. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, then turn on Messages (if it’s not already turned on).
To check if your phone number is set to send and receive messages, go to Settings > Messages, and tap Send & Receive. If you don’t see your phone number, you can link your iPhone number to your Apple ID so you can send and receive iMessages from your phone number.
Make sure iMessage is enabled on both iOS Devices. You could check on your device in: Settings > Messages > iMessage. Sometimes you just need to reactivate the iMessage function.
