How to Rollback to Old WhatsApp Status on Android – Guide
WhatsApp has just added a number of new features. Recent updates have included features like video calling, two-step authentication, and the new “Status” function, which is almost identical to Instagram Stories, which was a copy of Snapchat Stories. Unlike previous text-based status updates, the new WhatsApp status feature allows you to upload images, videos and GIFs, which will be deleted after 24 hours. Well, not everyone, myself included, is a fan of the new Status feature. If you’d rather go back to posting song lyrics or emotional statements like WhatsApp Status, there are ways to do it on Android smartphones:
Get old WhatsApp status on unrooted devices
On non-rooted devices, simply install an older WhatsApp APK to recover the old status. I have tried several older versions of WhatsApp and the one that worked for me is 2.17.60. You can simply download this WhatsApp version from APKMirror and install it.
So you can just set up your WhatsApp account, after which you should see the oldest WhatsApp home page with no Status tab on it.
While this method works for now, WhatsApp may choose to remove support for older versions of WhatsApp soon. In that case, there is a workaround that should work with most versions of WhatsApp.
Get old WhatsApp status on rooted devices
This workaround to recover old WhatsApp status requires a rooted Android device. Also, it’s important to note that I tried this method on WhatsApp v2.17.77 and it worked perfectly. You can check your WhatsApp version in WhatsApp Settings->About & Help->About. If you have a different version of WhatsApp, you can still try the process, but if it doesn’t work, you can download the version I’m using from APKMirror.
So if you’re ready, you’ll need a file manager app that includes support for root access. I’m using ES File Explorer (free), but you can use the file manager of your choice. Now that you have the file manager installed, here are the steps to revert to old WhatsApp status:
