Just as the dust has settled from Apple’s September event that unveiled the iPhone 14 series, leaks have surfaced regarding Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 series. We’ve heard multiple rumors that it will have a camera, but a leak has revealed more details about the phone maker’s potential camera plans.
leaker Ice Universe says it looks like it’s “100% confirmed” that the S23 Ultra will feature his 200MP camera.
You might think that a camera with many megapixels has a very large sensor, but Ice Universe states that it is “impossible to use a main sensor larger than this”. and details the sensor size and aperture of the lens. It may have 0.6μm pixels and a larger f/1.7 aperture to let in more light.
In overview, the Samsung Galaxy S22’s 108-megapixel camera features his 1/1.33-inch sensor with 0.8µm pixels and f/1.8 aperture. If true, it’s a slight increase in the S23 Ultra’s sensor, only slightly larger than the one that powers the 48-megapixel camera launched for the iPhone 14 Pro.
This may be good news for users. A larger sensor means a larger camera lens on the back of the phone, which can be a distraction. To keep the size of the sensor small, the company uses a proprietary pixel binning technology that combines pixels into one larger image, but smaller while preserving detail.
However, as the megapixels of cameras increase, companies will soon have to increase the size of the sensor. However, Samsung has no plans to do so with its next flagship for now, with the S23 Ultra We’ll have to see if it makes it into our list of the best camera phones. This is one of the most prominent rumors of the S23 Ultra since Samsung launched the 200-megapixel HP1 sensor. Most recently, it was rumored to be a likely 200MP lens, but it could be based on Samsung’s HP2 sensor.
