Like its coffee, EA prefers its vulgarity to be filtered. It makes sense, then, that a recent update to The Sims 4 has scrubbed the game’s gallery clean of “wholly unsuitable stuff” and updated the profanity filter to deter users from adding objectionable material in the future.
The team behind the game has “reviewed, and made critical updates to, the profanity filter to help prevent this from happening again in the future,” according to the update on EA’s official Sims 4 blog, which states, “We are aware of and have seen some select instances of wholly unacceptable content that has been uploaded to The Sims 4 Gallery.”
The post does not actually go into much depth about the outbreak of objectionable content before advising players to watch out for more of it in the future, which is unfortunate because there is no shortage of offensive content in the Sims. Perhaps people were downloading memories of the bug that caused Sims to crave romantic relationships with their relatives, or perhaps WooHooing werewolve had everyone overly thrilled. There are countless options.
Although we are probably very excellent at predicting what users will upload, it still helps to have a more focused “attention” than a general one. Kindly let it go.
The Sims has had a significant year. In addition to allowing us to experience his most embarrassing and awful years in July’s High School Expansion Pack, in October his EA and The Sims 5 were also unveiled. Apart from a brief gameplay clip, it is currently known only by the codename “Project Rene,” and little is known about it. If it is scattered, don’t worry too much; it will remain the current version for a while.
