How to Down­load Any File on iPhone – Guide

We don’t think about downloading and storing files or papers on a computer. The lack of a proper file system can be disconcerting, and something as easy as downloading a file can suddenly become a huge task.

How to download files for iPhone and iPad

  • On your iPhone or iPad, go to Safari and open the file you’re trying to download. In this example we are trying to download a PDF file.

  • Select Save to files. If you don’t see this option, swipe all the way down and tap Edit Actions button. From there, you can enable the Files extension.
  • At this point, you can rename the file and select a specific location before saving it. Personally, I like to save my downloaded files in the Downloads folder, so this is the folder I’m going to select. Now tap save button.

    • Download files from a password-protected website

  • Start Documents 5 and open the application browser (the button in the lower right corner).
  • Log in to whatever website you need to use to download a file or document.
  • Locate the file you want to download and tap it to upload it.
  • The Documents app will automatically prompt you to save the file. From there, you can change the document name and select its destination, either locally to the default My Files / Documents Downloads 5 folder or to iCloud. Tap Done when you’re ready to save the document.
