How to Enable Tab Groups in Google Chrome on Windows and Mac – Guide
Whether you’re someone who keeps around 864,896 browser tabs open at once or outnumbers more than a dozen bakers, Google has added a handy feature to your Google Chrome tools group that will help you control all of your tabs. A feature introduced last year called tab groups will allow you to create a collection of open sites in one click and label them with a custom name and color. Once you’ve created a group, you can change and reorder the tabs within it.
This feature it has been around for years in other browsers such as Vivaldi and Opera, and through browser extensions such as OneTab.
How to group tabs in Google Chrome
- Right click on any Chrome tab. From the drop-down menu, click on “Add tab to new group”.
- A new group will appear. Enter a name for the group and select a color.
- There are several ways to add new tabs to the group. Use whichever method is most convenient: – Click on an existing tab and drag it into the group – you’ll know it’s in the group when it’s outlined in the same color as the group you created. – Right-click in the tab group name and choose “New tab in group.” – Right click on any tab in the current group and click “New tab on the right”.
After creating your first tab, if you right-click on a new tab, you will have the option to add it to the existing group or create a new group. There are only eight colors to choose from, but there’s no practical limit to how many tab groups you can create in Chrome.
Once your group is created, you can minimize the group and move it around to better organize your web pages.
To minimize tabs, click on the group title. All tabs will be “collapsed” under the group title. This is a handy way to get a lot of related guides out of the way while you’re navigating.
To move a group of guides, click on the group title and drag it left or right – all guides will move with it. You can do this when the group is collapsed or expanded.
How to remove a tab from a group
If you want to remove a tab from a group, just click and drag the tab to the left or right. It is out of the group when you see the colored outline disappear from the selected group.
How to delete a group
If you want to close all tabs in a group at once, right-click on the group title and choose “Close Group”. All tabs will close immediately.
If you want to simply delete the group title but keep the tabs open, right-click and choose “Ungroup”.
