How to Fix ‘Action Center Not Opening in Windows 10’ Issue – Guide
The improved Action Center, or notification center, is one of the best features on Windows 10. With it, all system and individual app notifications are available in one place, meaning you don’t have to worry about missing any notifications. Also, you can dismiss them whenever you want.
As helpful as it is, sometimes the Action Center can stop responding. In fact, this happened to me recently, and regardless of how many times I clicked the notification icon, the Action Center wouldn’t open. If you’ve ever faced this kind of situation, here are some simple methods you can try to get the Action Center working again.
Scan the Drive
Start Command Prompt as an administrator and run Check Disk as well as System File Checker and the Deployment Image Servicing and Management command to check your hard disk for errors.
Restart Windows Explorer
Start Task Manager, right-click the Windows Explorer process and select Restart.
Perform a disk cleanup
This process will not only release up hard disk space, but it may also remove a temporary file that may be causing the problem. When Windows 10 runs low on memory and disk space, the operating system can be significantly slow as critical processes try and fail to complete.
Deactivate and reactivate action center
Go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Enable or disable system icons and then select the Action Center toggle button to turn it off and on.
Rename the Underclass file
Re-register the Action Center
Press Win + S and search for Windows PowerShell. Start PowerShell as an administrator and run the following command:
Get-AppxPackage | %{Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)AppxManifest.xml” -verbose}
Restart Windows in Safe Mode
To access Safe Mode, access the Boot Settings menu, which can be accessed through the Advanced Boot Options.
Try a system restore
If none of the previous steps work, perform a System Restore. Before proceeding, register a Restore Point.
Restart your PC
You will wipe the entire device. Windows 10 resets in three ways – keep your files, remove everything, or do a factory reset.
