Apple’s latest smart device is the AirTag, a small disk-shaped tracking device that can help you find lost or stolen items using the Find My app. It costs $29 for one or $99 for a pack of four and can be engraved with lyrics or an image of your choice for free. Accessories such as key rings, luggage tags, and clips that secure the device are sold separately.

AirTags use ultra-broadband technology and leverage Apple’s existing network of devices that function as “crowd-source flags,” dripping each other to determine the location of the missing item. Here’s what you should know before adding an AirTag to your items.

Compatible iPhones and iPads can use the “Find My” app to determine the approximate location of a missing AirTag equipped item. However, to track an AirTag, you must use iOS 14.5 or later on your iPhone or iPadOS 14.5+ on your tablet.Guide to use the Apple AirTag with your iPhone effectively is provided below.

How to To define Up an AirTag

  • Pull the tab from your AirTag. After pulling out the battery tab, your AirTag should play a sound.
  • Then hold the AirTag close to the iPhone. If your iPhone doesn’t detect AirTag right away, lock the screen by pressing the power button button on the side of your iPhone once. Then unlock the iPhone and hold it next to the AirTag again.
  • Then tap Connect.
  • Then choose a name for your AirTag. You can choose a name from the list or create your own by choosing Custom Name.
  • Then tap Continue to register your AirTag with your Apple ID. If you are not signed in to your Apple account on iPhone.
  • Finally, tap Done.

  • Open the Find My app on your iPhone. This is an app that comes pre-installed on your iPhone. You can find it by swiping down on your home screen and typing Find My in the search bar at the top of the screen.

  • Finally, choose the AirTag you want to locate to view it on the map.

  • Finally, follow the arrow to find your AirTag. Once you’ve found your AirTag, tap the “X” to exit Precision Finding. You can also tap the speaker icon at the bottom of the screen to make the AirTag play a sound or tap the flashlight icon for easy viewing.

  • Then tap Activate under Lost Mode. You can find this by scrolling down.

  • Finally, tap Activate. Also, make sure the indicator next to Notify when found is green.

  • “Hey Siri, find my ..” and then the name of your AirTag. Your AirTag will start playing a sound so you can find it by ear.
