Apple Maps is a useful and continuously improving app that can be used on the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac. This guide will provide tips on how to use Maps on the Mac and help you get more out of it. You can search for places, view maps in 2D or 3D, get directions, and view traffic info.
Searching for Addresses or Places
In the search bar at the top right corner of the map, type the location or place you want to find. You will be presented with suggestions or recent search history. With Wi-Fi turned on, Maps will provide more accurate results. You can also access previously saved locations and recent favourites.
Finding Your Location
Click on the Current Place icon to the left of the search bar to find your current location. If Maps cannot find your location, ensure that Wi-Fi is turned on and enable Location Services and Maps under System Preferences.
Adding Places to Favourites and Contacts
To add a location to your list of favourites, navigate to the location, click on the banner and then click the heart icon at the top. To add an address to your contacts, select the address, click the “i” icon, and “Create new contact.”
Getting Directions
Select the location you want to go to, click on the banner, and click the “Directions” icon. Maps will start providing the route automatically. You can change the start and end points, mode of transportation or view different routes on the map.
Viewing Traffic Info and Room View
To view traffic info, click on the car icon in the top left corner of the map. You can view traffic, road works or hazards on your route. To switch to 3D view, select “3D” in the Map menu to have a detailed view of the streets and buildings, with the option to rotate the map.
Using Multiple Cards and Pins
You can open multiple maps simultaneously by selecting File> New Window or cmd-N. To add a pin to a map, right-click or select View> Drop Pin and move the pin to the desired location. To add the pin to bookmarks, click the “i” icon next to the pin and select “Bookmark.”
