The richest people in the globe were named this week with the release of Forbes’ World’s Billionaires Listing.
Forbes has published its World’s Billionaire’s Listing for this year, with the total net worth of the 1,810 people appearing on the list at a whopping $6.48 trillion.
With a net worth of 81.1 billion USD (as of March 1, 2016), Bill Gates has been named the richest man in the world for the 17th time by the magazine. Gates has been in number 1 position for three years in a series. As per Forbes, there are a record 1810 billionaires in the world, with an aggregate net worth of 6.48 trillion USD.
Facebook Wealth
Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg climbed to the sixth spot, with a net worth of $44.6 billion. Co-founders of the from Facebook social network, Dustin Moskovitz, and Eduardo Saverin are also on the list, with a net worth of $8.9 billion and $6.2 billion, respectively. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, in the meantime, posted a net worth of $1.2 billion.
Jan Koum and Brian Acton, co-founders of the WhatsApp messaging service that was acquired by Facebook, also make the list of a net worth with $8.6 billion and $4.4 billion, respectively.
Tech Money
Six out of the top 15 richest people in the world gained their wealth through the tech industry. Joining Gates, Bezos and Zuckerberg are Oracle founder, Larry Ellison, including a net worth of $43.6 billion, and Google co-founders Larry Page, with a net worth of $35.2 billion, and Sergey Brin, among a net worth of $34.4 billion.
Different notable tech billionaires are Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, with a net worth of USD $20.5 billion; Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, with a net worth of $16.7 billion; and Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, with a net worth of $2.1 billion at just 25 years old.
Youngest billionaire
The youngest billionaire in the world is 19-year-old Alexandra Andresen, whose net worth is $1.2 billion. She received the money from her father, who owns the Norwegian investment firm Ferd. The oldest person on the list is David Rockefeller Sr., the wholly living grandchild of John D. Rockefeller, who at 100 years previous is worth $3 billion.
New York City Still Billionaire Capital
Earlier reports claimed that Beijing in China has overtaken New York City being the city with the most number of billionaires. However, that appears not to be the case, as New York City is the home of 79 billionaires linked to 51 billionaires in Beijing.
