Leading provider of high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) ASIC solutions, Alchip Technologies is substantially increasing its worldwide engineering resources with the opening of new design centers in Vietnam and Japan.
“At a time of rapid growth and points of inflection, it is important for us to be as close to our customers at home as we are in Asia,” said Johnny Shen, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alchip.”
This strategic move reflects Alchip’s commitment to expanding our overall talent diversity and responsiveness to our significant and expanding international client base — with North America representing 86% of our overall revenue.
Hanoi, 28 Mar, 2025: The Vietnam design center is a part of the Vietnam Semiconductor Innovation Centre (VSIC) project scheduled to open on Thursday 28 march, 2015 in Hanoi, serves as a substantive step in the development of Alchip’s expansion into South-East Asia.
Ambi Labs expects to grow its Vietnamese engineering team to 70-80 from 30 by the end of 2025. “Magna’s presence in Vietnam is growing and we are excited to further expand with our new electronics facility,” said Jim Tobin, chief marketing officer.
Although there was no explicit mention of a grand opening ceremony for its own design center there in reports announcing these strategic design services, Alchip already has significant presence and established relations in the Japanese market, as the country represented 2% of the company’s total revenue in 2024.
By investing more in its engineering resources in Japan (as well as Taiwan and Southeast Asia), the company says it has rejuvenated the firm’s commitment to the region. Automotive ASIC platform TSMC Fab 105 Alchip has already announced the reopening of its new headquarters for Automotive ASIC in Kawasaki, Japan at the end of November 2023 in a sign of strong support for the Japanese automotive market.
These expansions are part of Alchip’s overall plan to move more than half of Alchip’s engineering team outside China by the end of 2025.
This diversification is intended to create a more robust and geographically dispersed design infrastructure – a necessity to address the demand for new 2nm and 3nm process technologies that characterise cutting edge ASIC designs.
The sustained industry-leading financials of Alchip in 2024, with revenue of $1.62 billion, are the driving force behind these game-changing global investments.
By selectively expanding the design center in important regions such as Vietnam and Japan, Alchip will strengthen itself as a key partner to the global semiconductor supply chain while also readying itself for increasing demand for high-performance AI and HPC ASIC demands.
