Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has taken a giant step towards a future of smart mobility after announcing today the company will soon be establishing Yamaha Motor Connected Innovation (YMCI) in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.
Working underneath Yamaha Motor Europe N.V., this new division aims to become a key driver for creating advanced digital platforms and connected technologies, with a special emphasis on the marine products business.
The unveiling of YMCI was conducted as part of Yamaha Motor’s initiative to promote its “Marine CASE Strategy”(Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric), a key driver for the company in its upcoming Medium-Term Management Plan.
This strategic shift is designed to evolve our marine businesses into an “Integrated Boat Business” that focuses on maximizing customer value through digital technology and innovation.
One of the focused area of such development will be asset acquisition including IT resources which have been developed by Skipperi, a Finnish company engaged in the boating business and ICT for the boating industry in which Yamaha Motor invested in 2023 as a boating-focused tech company.
Skipperi is a expert in developing digital platforms operating subscription-based boat clubs around the world powering operations digitally.
The Swedish-based Skipperi’s software platform will be a base layer of YMCI, which plans to strengthen connected technology development and grow sales in the growing world market for boat sharing.
Based in Espoo, Finland, YMCI will focus on further enhancing these software features preparing for wider availability in the years ahead. This will put Yamaha Motor at the forefront of the digital transformation in the marine industry, providing even more connected and enjoyable experiences to customers.
Establishing YMCI in Finland benefits from the nation’s long history as a hotbed for tech innovation and digital know-how.
Bringing together the manufacturing depth of Yamaha with the flexible tech-rich environment of tech-savvy Finland, the new business aims to drive faster development of new value added services and next-gen products that suit the evolving lifestyle of marine customers around the globe.
This move signals a new chapter for Yamaha Motor as it continues its mission to provide smart mobility and connected solutions through its product range.
