Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 (2023): Design
The Zephyrus M16 does a great job of keeping a bit of portability along with all that speed. It has a thin, matte black chassis that weighs just over five pounds. Even though it looks almost exactly the same as last year’s model, the AniMe Matrix LED lid (which we first saw on the Zephyrus G14 line) gives it a bit more style without shouting about how powerful it is. That’s because you can easily turn off the lights with the ASUS Armoury Crate app when you want to be more private. Then, when you want to surprise some nosy Saiyans, you can just turn them back on. Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 (2023): Display
When it comes to looks, the M16’s 2560 x 1600 screen may be a bigger improvement than its new CPU and GPU. Because it’s a Mini LED screen, the refresh rate has been increased to 240Hz, and there are a lot more dimming zones, which help cut down on blooming. The lighting is also much better. Normal use maxes out at about 600 nits, but the VESA DisplayHDR 1000 approval makes games and movies look even better. It’s a real pleasure.
The only thing we don’t like, and this is true of all laptops with Nvidia’s Optimus technology, is that when moving between the integrated graphics and the discrete GPU, the screen flashes and goes black, which is kind of annoying. Also, based on your settings, you may need to turn on things like HDR or certain color profiles again when it changes modes.
Performance
In terms of specs, this 2023 Asus Zephyrus M16 is made with the most up-to-date tech from Intel and Nvidia for thin-and-light performance laptops. The Core i9-13900H is in the middle of Intel’s 13th-generation Raptor Lake platform. It has 14 Cores and 20 Threads. It is a combination design with 6 High-Performance Cores that can handle two tasks at once and 8 extra Efficiency Cores that can work together or separately depending on the load. The design and thermal module of this Zephyrus also make it possible for the processor to run at up to 110W of continuous power on the Turbo or Manual profiles when the CPU is working hard.

All 2023 ROG models, like this Zephyrus M16, have a 90Wh battery inside. The system is also set to automatically change the frame rate of the screen to 60 Hz when the laptop is running on battery power. If you see a quick flicker on the screen when you take the laptop away from the wall, this is because of this change. I’ll also say that if you want to get the most out of your laptop’s battery life, you should use Armory Crate with any choice other than Ultimate dGPU mode, preferably on the Silent Profile and Standard/Eco dGPU mode.
Price and availability
The mid-range ROG Zephyrus M16 GU604VZ with the same specs, but the RTX 4080 Laptop 12GB dGPU and 1 TB of storage, costs about €3,999 in Europe, but I haven’t been able to find it in US shops yet. I think it will cost somewhere between $2799 and $2999. There is a big change in price, and they work very differently as well.
There is also a base-level ROG Zephyrus M16 GU604VI with an IPS display, an RTX 4070 Laptop 8GB dGPU, 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, and an RTX 4070 Laptop 8GB dGPU. This one costs $1949 at Best Buy in the US, but here it costs at least €2999.
Final Words
Unfortunately, our review spec’d Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 isn’t available quite yet. The closest we’ve seen is a version that costs $4,299 and has a 4070 GPU, 16GB RAM, and a single 1TB hard drive. Still, if we imagine a maximum price of $7,499, which is what the upcoming Strix SCAR 18 will cost, the M16 is still in a very desirable price range.
In terms of value, it’s just behind the new Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, but both are hard to find and are great. Once we know how much the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 costs, we’ll give a final review.
