You should always be able to pay to get rid of ads, but I’d rather make a one-time payment than a contract. Even more so when the contract costs $3.99 a year or $0.99 a month. The creator of CARROT Weather says that access to weather data is pricey and that a one-time fee would mean he would lose money, which is a load of crap.

For the fee, you don’t just get rid of ads, though. It also adds extra features, like a weather app and a way to see the weather in any place from the past 70 years using the time machine. Then there is the fact that you can’t show the weather or temperature in the message tray or the status bar. You’re also out of luck here if you like to check the weather radar. It doesn’t matter how much you pay or how funny CARROT Weather is; people who count on it will be unhappy.

Carrot for Mac and iOS is without a question the most entertaining of all the available options for checking the weather, despite the fact that it may not be the most cost-effective of the available options.
