It seems as though new Echo Shows are released on an annual basis, but in a variety of formats. Now, Lenovo is making a comeback to the market for smart displays with an updated version of its Smart alarm Clock that is driven by the Google Assistant. The lovely Lenovo Smart Clock 2 adds just enough additional capabilities to make it intriguing, but at $90, it is too pricey to suggest.
If you’re looking for an affordable smart clock, check out the Lenovo Smart Clock 1. Although the addition of wireless charging, a new nightlight feature, and numerous color options are all welcome upgrades, they are not sufficient to justify the steep price tag. The slightly larger but still camera-free Nest Hub (2nd gen) offers many more functions, including video streaming, sleep detecting (if you’re into that), and third-party camera streaming, all for just $10 more than Lenovo’s clock. There will be no more of the Smart Clock 2 available.
Lenovo Smart Clock 2 Specifications
The new Lenovo Smart Clock 2 is an upgraded version of the original Smart Clock that features a redesigned design, a bright touch display, improved sound, and—for an additional cost—a wireless charging dock that also serves as a night light.

Lenovo Smart Clock 2: Design

The Lenovo Smart Clock 2 is so small that it would fit perfectly on a nightstand. It has dimensions of 3.67 x 4.47 x 2.81 inches (9.33 x 11.38 x 7.13 cm) without the wireless charging station and almost doubles in size with the base.
We’ve already established that the dock can wirelessly charge Qi-enabled devices; however, if you don’t have access to multiple power outlets, the dock’s USB-A port on the back guarantees that you can charge items that don’t support Qi charging (like your Fitbit). You can buy this smart clock from its official website
Lenovo Smart Clock 2: Display
The IPS display of the Lenovo Smart Clock 2, which measures in at 4 inches and 480 by 800 pixels, impressed me with its clarity and brightness. When we utilized the clock as a picture frame for photographs of my family, the pictures were not distorted in any way and did not have a “screen door” appearance.
Surprisingly, Google’s Smart Clock 2 does not come equipped with the Ambient IQ feature that is available on the company’s more expensive Nest displays. This function does an excellent job of adjusting the hue of the display in response to the level of ambient light in the room.
Lenovo Smart Clock 2: Audio Quality

Lenovo claims that the Smart Clock 2’s audio quality has been upgraded thanks to the front-firing 1.5-inch drivers. Playing music on the new clock sounded pretty decent for how small it is; for example, Billie Eilish’s “Oxytocin” sounded relatively crisp with a teeny, tiny bit of bass, and “Reminiscing” by Little River Band sounded warmer than I would have guessed. However, the audio quality is no better than a standard clock radio at best, so lower your standards accordingly.
Lenovo Smart Clock 2: Software and Performance
The software is a direct match for the original design; it is a Google-made platform not unlike that of the Nest Hub, but scaled down to fit the very smaller display. As a side note, this year’s model has a screen that’s very similar to last year’s, albeit with more consistent backlighting.
The Lenovo Smart Clock 2 is easy to set up if you already have a Google account since it is powered by Android 10. All of your information and Google services are instantly imported, and it can connect to your home Wi-Fi network from your phone, saving you time. After that, the Smart Clock 2 will walk you through setting the time, alarm, and customizing the clock’s faces and background.
It is equipped with Google Assistant, allowing you to do everything you’d expect from an Assistant-enabled device and more: control smart home gadgets, get answers to pressing queries, check the latest news and sports scores, and more. Google Assistant’s responses are often (but not always) visualized on the screen, as would be expected from a smart display.
Price and availability
A sleep-tracking Not much bigger than the Smart Clock 2, the Google Nest Hub offers the entire Nest Hub experience in addition to video streaming for only $100. In addition, you’ll be spending $90 on the clunky (and, if you ask me, a little bit ugly) wireless charging dock with the night light. The Lenovo Smart Clock 2 accomplishes its job well, and if you wait long enough, you can probably get a nice deal on it.
Final Words
Lenovo’s second Smart Clock is nearly as useful as the first as a nightstand companion. The hardware is purpose-built for this application, and the latest version exceeds your expectations. A few peculiarities don’t detract from an otherwise competent production.
If you buy it for yourself or a loved one, we don’t think you’ll be let down. The Smart Clock 2 retails for $69 on its own, or $89 with the dock. If you have a charging pad or USB plug on your nightstand, this is a perfect method to get rid of them.
Lenovo Smart Clock 2 review: The good and The bad
The second generation Lenovo Smart Clock now supports wireless charging via a dock that may be purchased separately.

- Google Assistant built-in
The Bad
- Can’t play videos
Questions and Answers
The Google Assistant-enabled Lenovo Smart Clock can do more than just tell time and wake you up. It’s made to help you wind down and get a good night’s sleep by limiting your smartphone use before bed. It can control your timetable, play music around your house, and even run your smart home.
The Smart Clock Essential’s top also features controls for controlling the volume, playing and pausing music, and checking and setting alarms in addition to the voice commands. A power port, a USB port, and a mute switch for the microphone are all located on the back.
