The only difference between LG’s C-series and G-series models was how they looked and what kind of speakers they had. In 2021, however, the G1 got a brighter screen than its C1 brother. The C2 from last year had a brighter screen, but they got a new heatsink, so the difference in speed between the two ranges stayed the same.
For 2023, though, this performance gap is wider than ever. This is because the new G3 has brand-new MLA technology that makes OLED much better, while the C3, which it replaces, is almost identical to the C2.
In and of itself, that isn’t always a problem. Last year’s C2 won multiple awards, so more of the same might not be a bad thing. Even though the price went up from last year’s model, that wouldn’t be a big problem for the C3 by itself.

LG OLED65C3: Design
We have no problem with LG continuing to use the design language it introduced with the C2. While it is slightly thicker than the uniformly thin G3 (4.7cm vs. 2.4cm), the thick area that houses the set’s connection, processing hardware, and speakers only covers a portion of the set’s rear, leaving the rest to be almost miraculously slim. The narrow stand is elegant and gives the set a small footprint that makes it easy to find a home for.
Some people, especially those who prefer to mount their TVs on the wall like a picture, will still find the picture frame style of the G3 to be better, but to these observers, the C3 is the more fashionable and striking TV. The C3, like the C2, is exceptionally light, weighing only 16.6 kg in comparison to the top 65-inch TVs. Compared to the G3 (23.9 kg) and the Sony A80L (23.3 kg), the C3 is noticeably lighter, yet it appears to be of high quality. You can buy this LG OLED65C3 from its official website
LG OLED65C3: Picture Quality
Dolby Vision Cinema Home, as on the G3 and prior LG OLEDs, is our go-to for Dolby Vision content since it maintains most of the precision of Dolby Vision Cinema while adding some extra brightness that really makes the picture pop. When you’re playing Top Gun: Maverick, you’ll notice how well the C3 handles color and contrast.
A few highlights definitely look a little brighter than they did on the C2, but overall the image is polished, nuanced, and detailed. There is a razor-thin margin at stake, though. Good shadow detail is there throughout the film, and while low-light colors are a bit washed out, it doesn’t seem to be as pronounced as it was on the G3.
LG OLED65C3: Performance
We thought the C3 would be at least as good as LG’s other C-series TVs, which have some of the best picture quality we’ve seen in their price range. It uses an a9 AI Processor Gen6 that was made just for LG to power its different tools for changing the brightness, colors, and sound based on what is on the screen. And how well are the usual must-haves of OLED TVs here: perfect blacks, exciting contrast, and rich, accurate colors at every point on the visual spectrum? Let’s just say that we weren’t let down.
It brought The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s great, fungal world to life with its great, psychedelic mushroom colors and intricate, exciting animation that was super smooth and rewarding from beginning to end. Spider-Man: No Way Home, which mixed the animated and real worlds like a comic book, showed the gritty but colorful palette of the live action scenes and the burning magic of the special effects that were so important to the movie’s story.
Final Words
When using just the C3, there are no major issues with the image quality. It’s very similar to the C2’s, which we adored, but with somewhat more oomph and improved upscaling.
The concern is that the price has increased while relatively few improvements have been made. The C3 will now have to compete with vehicles that clearly received more attention. It’s hard not to be let down by the C-series model from 2023, despite the fact that it’s still a very excellent TV, because the sound isn’t particularly good.
LG OLED65C3 review: The good and The bad
The image is refined, nuanced, and detailed, and there are some highlights that look slightly brighter than they did when they were captured with the C2 camera.
The Good
- Superb picture quality
- Improved smart interface
The Bad
- No ATSC 3.0 tuner
