Motorola used to be the leader in smartphones, but those days are long gone. However, the company has been making a comeback with a string of excellent phones over the last year or two.
Most of the time, these features have only been available on mid-range or cheaper premium phones. However, the Edge 30 Ultra is a real Android flagship, with camera specs, charging speeds, and performance that can compete with the best.
We were a little skeptical about the Edge 30 Ultra at first. Motorola phones don’t really feel that exciting, and flagships usually need a little bit of anticipation to get people excited. However, this is easily one of the best phones I’ve used all year, and it’s a great Android choice.

Screen and Speakers
One of the Ultra’s most notable features is its display, an OLED panel with a blisteringly fast 144Hz refresh rate that Motorola has crammed inside the device. It’s not unheard of, but outside of gaming phones, where the benefits to frame rates are perhaps highest, we rarely see refresh rates exceeding 120Hz. This level of screen speed is unusual in a flagship device, and although it’s not at all undesirable, we do question how much of an improvement it will make for the typical user, especially when compared to a screen that runs at 120 fps.

Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 sensor is a lower-end component that has been seen in the not-quite-flagship Xiaomi 12T Ultra. However, Motorola should be credited with being the first to market with a 200MP sensor.
When shooting in bright light, the main camera on the Edge 30 Ultra produces images with the kind of sharp detail you’d expect from a device with that many pixels. Your default setting will produce 12.5MP images by using pixel binning extensively. This means that one pixel will use data from its neighboring pixels to enhance its resolution by 16. The Edge 30 Ultra from Motorola has a 4,610mAh battery. If you don’t use your phone much, this will last you up to two days. If you’re always on your phone, it will last at least a day. Even at full brightness, the battery percentage drops very slowly, and it doesn’t make a big difference whether you’re connected to Wi-Fi or 5G. The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is a successful return to the flagship fold for the company, offering a fashionable device with a beautiful display, impressive performance, and one of the cleanest and most pleasurable-to-use user interfaces available anywhere in the industry. The camera arrangement is only sufficient, but Motorola goes above and beyond with its capability for wired and wireless charging.
