The Purple Plus mattress came out in August 2021 as a more advanced form of the Purple Mattress, which had already won several awards. It has an extra two inches of high-quality foam on top of Purple’s Purple Grid and the supporting core. It also lets your skin breathe better and keeps you cooler. Overall, it has a medium firmness rating, but Purple also says it will have a “adaptive” feel, which means it will be soft where you want it to be soft and harder where you need more support.
For this Purple Plus mattress review, we slept on it for more than two weeks and put it through a series of tests to see if it lived up to the brand’s claims. We were so pleased that we put it on our list of the best mattresses. Here’s what we can tell you: the Purple Plus is an amazing way to stay cool. It’s one of the coolest beds we’ve tried. If you liked how well the Original kept you cool, the Purple Plus is in a league of its own.

Purple Plus mattress: Design

The unique construction of the Purple Plus mattress sets it apart from its competitors. Purple’s unique Purple Grid is a hyper-elastic polymer that provides pressure relief, body support, breathability, and temperature regulation all in the top layer of the mattress.
Layers of polyurethane foam and a high-density polyurethane foam support core provide additional support and stability beneath the Purple Grid. The Purple Plus mattress has a cover constructed from a soft, breathable knit fabric that is designed to dissipate moisture and promote air circulation. You can visit its official website
Purple Plus mattress: Setting Up
The Purple Plus was delivered to my home by FedEx. The mattress is sent in a purple duffel-style plastic bag that has been vacuum-sealed for transport. The packaging was more smaller and more manageable than that of similar mattresses-in-a-box. Moving my king-sized bed required two persons because it weighted more than 140 pounds.
To remove the mattress, simply unzip one end. The bed’s mattress is subsequently placed atop it. Included are two eye masks, two Grid samples, a tool to unroll the plastic, and instructions.
Firmness and Comfort

There is just one version of the Purple Plus. They say it’s physics, but we find the mattress to be only somewhat firm under our arms and legs, so we’d give it a 6 out of 10. The spine and lower lumbar regions receive a 7.5 out of 10 from us. On a scale from 1-10, we found the Original to be a solid 7. In a nutshell, the Purple Plus is perfect for the places you anticipate needing a firmer feel and more forgiving in the places you don’t.
You’ll get a sense of weightlessness and slight sinkage on the Purple Plus. It’s also sturdier than it looks at first glance. Our reviewers had a good night’s sleep on the mattress because of how soft and cushioned it is. Our sleep-test subjects come in a wide range of shapes and sizes and have widely varying cooling requirements.
Purple Plus mattress: Edge Support
Purple Plus mattresses have gained notoriety for its cutting-edge aesthetics and special comfort features. The Purple Plus mattress provides a solid base all the way to the edge, so you can rest assured that you’ll get the same great feel and support no matter where you lay.
The Purple Plus mattress makes use of a number of different materials and construction methods to prevent the sagging and loss of support that plagues regular mattresses at the mattress’s perimeter. Hyper-elastic polymer Purple GridTM is precisely put all over the mattress, even along the sides. This grid shapes to your body and supports you generously everywhere, even at the corners.
Purple Plus mattress: Performance
We were provided with a Purple Plus mattress in queen size for a period of two weeks. In accordance with the technique that we have developed for researching mattresses, we put it through its paces in terms of the five most important aspects of its performance: pressure relief, motion isolation, temperature regulation, edge support, and durability. We also graded how simple it was to get everything set up.
We are currently working off of a tiny sample size in our testing group, so in order to provide a more thorough viewpoint on how well the Purple Plus functions, we also evaluated reviews that were provided by certified users. What follows is the information that we found…
Purple Plus mattress: Price
The Purple Plus is the most expensive of Purple’s ‘Essential’ line of mattresses, which also includes the Original (queen MSRP $1,399) and the NewDay (launching in the fall of 2022 with a queen MSRP of $1,095). Additionally to the Plus, the company offers three ‘Premium’ hybrid mattresses that are significantly more expensive. Prices range from $2,399 for a queen size Purple Hybrid to $3,799 for a Hybrid Premier 4.
Final Words
The Purple Plus Mattress is a truly revolutionary and one-of-a-kind sleep surface. Purple Grid technology provides pressure relief, support, and a consistent sleeping environment. The foam layers add support and stability, while the breathable cover keeps cool.
The Purple Plus mattress is an excellent option for those who prioritize pressure relief and staying cool, but it isn’t for everyone because some people prefer a classic feel or a firmer mattress.
Purple Plus mattress review: The good and The bad
Its stretchy and elastic surface is very good at dampening the effects of collision and movement.
The Good
- Superior cooling
- Customized comfort
The Bad
- Middling edge support
Questions and Answers
Purple claims that their Hybrid Premier mattress, which features both foam and coils for support, is ideal for heavier adults because to the additional inch of height added to the grid for increased pressure relief. A deeper mattress prevents drooping, even when used by bigger persons.
The Purple Plus is a comfortable choice for side sleepers and anyone weighing less than 130 pounds because to its medium firmness level and 11-inch height.
