The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is a curved gaming monitor that can be purchased for $2,199. It draws a lot of attention. According to Samsung, it is the first OLED gaming monitor that measures 49 inches in any size. The panel’s 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms reaction time provide a smooth and lag-free experience, while the display’s 1,800R curvature is designed to help you become more immersed in whichever game you happen to be playing.
The Samsung OLED display, in addition to delivering remarkable clarity, also produces colors that are vivid. At a recent Samsung event, I had the opportunity to get my hands on the Odyssey OLED G9 gaming monitor, and I was blown away by the vivid picture clarity, lightning-fast performance, and immersive curved display of the device.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G9: Design

Let’s get one thing out of the way: this is a huge item. Its 49-inch, ultra-wide, 32:9 display is as sharp as two side-by-side 27-inch 1440p screens. At 120 centimeters in length, it barely fits on my reasonably large desk, leaving no room on either side. You’ll either need a bigger desk or some ingenious ways to install your monitor if you’ve got speakers all around your present one.
The OLEG G9’s tiny, light OLED display and the included 100 x 100 VESA mount should provide for a quick and painless wall-mounting setup. Because of its mild 1800R curve, it will protrude slightly, but only slightly. To my view, the degree of curve is perfect, while some may like the more extreme 1000R curve of Samsung’s non-OLED 49-inch Odyssey Neo G9. However, we found that the softer curvature of the OLED G9 made it the perfect device for a mix of gaming and work.
Samsung Odyssey OLED G9: Display
The 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 display’s 1,800R curvature and 5,120 x 1,440 resolution do an excellent job of drawing you into games. Games like Doom Eternal, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Forza Horizon 5 were among those we got to play during my hands-on time. We got a decent sense of the monitor’s capabilities from each of them.
In games like Call of Duty: Warzone, the expanded field of view afforded by the 32:9 aspect ratio helped me perform better. I could see more of my surroundings, making it easier to spot any sneaking enemies. The monitor’s ability to accurately portray the Mexican desert environment we raced through in Forza Horizon 5 was particularly impressive. Every forthcoming bend was crystal clear, and so was the verdant landscape beyond the track.
Samsung Odyssey OLED G9: Image Quality

Many gamers are switching to 4K monitors, but 1440p is still the best option for those who want high-quality images on big screens with refresh rates of up to 240Hz. Putting that technology on a screen that big, plus the higher pixel density needed for a 2160p resolution, makes the price go up a lot and needs a top graphics card in the gaming system. So, 1440p and 240Hz look good. Along with that, it has AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which helps match the frame rate of the game to the display, and Samsung claims a 0.3ms GtG response time to reduce motion blur. Again, testing in this area is not a problem.
In some ways, OLED technology is a perfect fit for a great HDR experience because each pixel can be turned off. This makes it possible to get the darkest blacks. In fact, our tests here gave these dark scenes a black level of “zero,” which means that the details looked great. As you would expect, contrast performance is also great.
Final Words
There is a good chance that the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 will end up being one of the most impressive gaming monitors released in June 2023. Its curved display, which measures 49 inches and features colors that are both vibrant and deep, immerses you in whichever game you happen to be playing. In addition, the low response time of 0.03 milliseconds and the 240 Hz refresh rate both contribute to a great gaming experience.
