Like all good gaming routers, the GX90 has a lot of big, pointy antennas. It has eight of them, to be exact, which make it look like a Cylon battle cruiser from Battlestar Galactica. It’s big and bulky, and those antennas will need some space to be able to send the Wi-Fi signal to the farthest corners of the solar system (or your upstairs bedroom – whichever is nearest).
There are three Gigabit Ethernet ports for wired connections for a laptop, games console, or set-top box. A fourth Gigabit Ethernet port can be used for a wired connection or to connect to your existing modem or router to use its Internet connection. And if you’re lucky enough to have really fast broadband, there’s a fifth Ethernet port that can connect to a 2.5Gb network.

The GX90 also has a tri-band system, which is another important part. It has a Wi-Fi band at 2.4GHz and two bands at 5GHz. One of these 5GHz bands is a “gaming band” that’s rated at 4.8Gbps by itself.

Even as a regular router, the TP-Link GX90 doesn’t do much wrong, but it does a lot of things right. It’s very fast, easy to set up, and covered my whole house without even needing a mesh configuration. Also, its gaming performance was as good as we have seen, and even though it doesn’t have a cool real-time performance graph or a special gaming VPN.
