Apple on iOS 15 introduced a new Mail Privacy Protection feature which is designed to hide your IP address so that email senders cannot use it to determine your location or link it to your browsing activity.

Mail Privacy Protection can be turned on in the Settings app, but Apple advises that there are some situations where it might not work correctly.
If you see the message “Unable to upload remote content privately” at the beginning of an email, it may be because you are using a virtual private network. Mail doesn’t upload content without your permission, but if there’s something you need to see, you can ignore it by tapping the “Upload Content” option in the prompt.
When you use “Upload Content” with a VPN enabled in this way, the content will be uploaded through the VPN instead of Mail’s Privacy Protection, so you still have some VPN protection. You can also turn off VPN to try to get all the benefits of Mail’s Privacy Protection.
