How to install RSAT on Windows 11 PC – Guide

Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) are used to remotely manage functions and features on a Windows server from a PC with Windows operating system. However, RSAT tools are not pre-installed on all Windows PCs and Microsoft offers them as optional functions. Also, there are several ways to install RSAT tools on your Windows computer. Remote server administration tools for Windows 11 include Server Managers, Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-ins, and consoles. It also includes Windows PowerShell cmdlets and providers, as well as command-line tools for managing roles and features that run on Windows Server.

Installing RSAT on your PC

Install RSAT on Windows 11 in Settings

The first way to install RSAT on Windows 11 is using the Settings app. The settings application is the ideal option for all the adjustments and changes you need to make on your PC. We discussed the complete process for installing RSAT on Windows 11 from the Settings app-

Open the Start menu by pressing the Windows key. Now, in the Start menu, look for Settings and open it. You can press the Windows + I key combination, which is the keyboard shortcut to open the Settings application on the Windows PC.

By default you will be taken to the System tab in Settings. Click the Apps tab on the left sidebar of the Settings app.

Now on the right side of the Applications section / tab click on Optional features. After doing this, click on the Preview button. Features button you see next to Add an optional feature option.

Here in the search box, search for RSAT. Now check all the boxes that say RSAT.

After doing this, click Next. You will be able to see all the features you are adding to your PC.

If you want to edit the features already available or want to edit the optional features, then click Edit or add more features. If you don’t want to edit the features or add more features and click Install to install RSAT on your PC.

No Optional Features page, you will be able to see all optional features that are being installed on your PC.

Install RSAT on Windows 11 from Windows PowerShell

Another way to install RSAT on Windows 11 is using Windows PowerShell. When using PowerShell, you will have the option to install all the RSAT tools individually or at once. To install RSAT on Windows 11 from Windows PowerShell, follow the steps provided below-

First, press the key combination Windows + X. Now in the menu that opens up, click Windows Terminal (Admin). This will run Windows PowerShell with administrative privileges.

In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and run it: Get-WindowsCapability -Name RSAT * -Online | Select-Object -Property DisplayName, State

The above command will display a list of all RSAT components that are installed and also components that are not installed. This will make it easier for you to find out which RSAT components are there on your PC and which ones you need to install.

If you want to install all components at once, type the following command and run it- Get-WindowsCapability –Name RSAT * -Online | Add-Windows Resource – Online

In case, if you want to install all components one by one, type the following command in Windows PowerShell- Add-WindowsCapability –Online –Name tool-name

In the command above, replace the tool name with the name of the component you want to install.

Running RSAT on Windows 11

After installing RSAT on your Windows 11 PC, you can easily run it. To run the RSAT tools on Windows 11, follow the steps provided below-

Open the Start menu by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.

From the Start menu, look for Windows Tools and open it.

Here you will find all RSAT components. You can open any of the RSAT components by double clicking on it.
