In a brand new Los Angeles studio run by former Overwatch producer and Blizzard vice president Chacko Sonny, Netflix appears to be building a AAA shooter for the PC.
A game director with filmmaking experience is needed for the aptly named Netflix Games Studio to work on a “new AAA PC game”. It appears to be a live service game, similar to Overwatch, as Netflix intends to offer a “broader experience” in this area.
Candidates must also “have a strong love of collaborative and competitive social systems and games” as well as “a deep understanding of highly engaging content and how to transmit it”.
Future directors are also required to design games using the Unreal Engine and create settings, characters and narratives “worthy of a Netflix movie or TV series”. Netflix is looking for someone with at least 10 years of experience in game design, including time spent directing, according to job postings that haven’t been widely publicized.
We likely won’t learn more about Netflix’s AAA games for years, as this appears to be the first round of recruits from an entirely new studio.
When purchasing several mobile game developers over the last couple of years, the entertainment streaming giant has gradually but surely entered the video game industry. However, in October 2022, he will build Netflix Games Studio and make even more progress.
